Not Just Airplanes

Code 1 Maintenance Tucson-AZ

So you take a look around and see how badly aviation is doing right now and you wonder why anyone would want to get an A&P. Or maybe you have had your fill of airplanes in the military and just don’t want anything more to do with them and think the A&P would be a waste of time. Well don’t just discount an A&P quite yet because it can still be a ticket to another career outside of working out of a toolbox.

  1. Utility companies are always looking for people with technical training to maintain steam turbines and wind driven generators. The technologies are the same as what’s used in aircraft.
  2. The Gaming Industry (think Vegas slot machines) has always hired A&P mechanics.
  3. Amusement parks also like hiring A&P’s due to their extensive experience in electromechanical devices.
  4. Management positions in aviation. There are tons of positions within airline management that require and A&P even though you never sign anything off and don’t work out of a toolbox.
  5. I once got a job working at a physics research lab building a supercollider because I had my A&P.
  6. Manufacturing facilities will often hire A&P mechanics to work in QA because of our background with precision tooling and measuring devices.
  7. OEM’s such as Pratt & Whitney, GE, Rolls-Royce, and Boeing hire A&P’s to work in test areas or as Tech Reps.
  8. SpaceX has recently hired A&P’s without even interviewing them.
  9. Tesla has also done the same.
  10. If you want to just teach aviation maintenance then the A&P is pretty much a requirement.

The list goes on and on but the fact is that the A&P says that you have completed a rigorous program of training that encompasses a wide range of technical topics and skills, and that you have been tested on those items and passed. And don’t forget that it’s a lifetime license with no recurrent training required and it’s nice to have something to fall back on if your current career falls apart.

If you have 30 months of aircraft maintenance experience then we at Code 1 Maintenance can help you get you’re A&P in as little as two weeks. Contact us if you’d like to know how.
